In the same regard, the Quran teaches about the responsibility of the leaders as guardians (Amanah) of Allah’s trust who can only work through Shura. Moreover, the Quran preserves other basic human rights such as the freedom of any citizen to profess their religion along with the protection of the minority. Many Muslim societies, however, do not practice these ideals due to authoritarianism, rampant corruption and cultural tendency in society.
